Abstract

The overall aim of this study was to investigate the synthesis and activity of three compounds based on the Benzo [b] thiophene as possible new insecticidal agents. The activity was investigated against 4th instar larvae of un-irradiated and F1 larvae resulted from irradiated male parent pupae of Spodoptera littoralis. The results revealed that the larval percent mortality was both concentration and time dependant. Comp. C presented the highest percent mortality in both un-irradiated and F1 irradiated larvae than both comp. B and comp. A. The activity of AST (aspartate aminotransaminase) and ALT (alanine aminotransferase) increased when larvae treated with any of the three compounds and more increase was obtained when the larvae was produced from irradiated parents as compared to control. Consequently, the three synthesized Benzo [b] thiophene compounds exhibits a physiological alteration in the larvae which lead to larval death.
