Cities are often stricken with extreme poverty, unemployment and socio-economic disparities, unsustainable patterns of consumption and production, and they are primary contributors to climate change and environmental degradation. But cities also enable a significant portion of the world’s businesses and informal enterprises, provide markets for industry and employment, foster technological innovations, and support highdensity habitation and efficient land use.
