A Case With Hypokalemic Thyrotoxic Periodic Paralysis

Thyrotoxic periodic paralysis is an uncommon complication of hyperthyroidism and characterized with the attacks of hypokalemia and muscle weakness. A male patient admitted to our emergency clinics had intermittent weakness in his upper and lower extremities which was resolving spontaneously in a few hours. Patient was diagnosed as thyrotoxic periodic paralysis depending upon laboratory examination and history. The epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation and therapy of this relatively rare disease were reviewed. Key words: Thyrotoxicosis, Periodic Paralysis, Hypokalemia.
