Uloga botaničkih vrtova u očuvanju biljne raznolikosti

Botanical Gardens are institutions that contain documented and scientifically processed plant collections for scientific research and education. One of the important roles of botanical gardens today is the preservation of plant diversity. More recently, the modern management of botanical gardens makes it easier to reach out to the general public, especially young people who are aware of the importance of preserving biodiversity. In Croatia, botanical garden are not an independent institution, but function within other institutions. Since 2008, all Croatian botanical gardens have been incorporated into the Botanical Garden and Arboretum Section of the Croatian Botanic Society to facilitate their operation. The Botanic Gardens in Croatia are: Botanical Garden of the Faculty of Science in Zagreb, Pharmacy Botanical Garden Fran Kusan, Botanical Garden of Kotisina, PP Biokovo, Velebit Botanical Garden, Northern Velebit NP, Botanical Garden of Marjan PMF in Split, Botanical garden at Lokrum of the University of Dubrovnik, Ostrog's botanical garden, Kastel Luksic and The coastal botanical garden at the Natural History Museum of Rijeka.
