The aim of this paper is to study the influence of musical thinking on piano performance.Research methodology. The author suggests the methodological substantiation of the problems of musical thinking as the basis of piano performance drawing on a comprehensive approach to the phenomena of culture. The processes and trends of the influence of musical thinking on the performing culture as an objective regularity and continuity of the spiritual tradition are studied. In this study the author uses historical-cultural, system-functional, psychological-pedagogical and art methods of analysis.Results. The paper examines the processes and trends of the influence of musical thinking on the performance process caused by improvement of the creative concept of the performer. Knowledge about the culture of the historical period, the composer and his work, the author’s concept of the composition play a key role. The paper demonstrates that the main problem of the performance process consists in the fact that the performer should join together the work written by the composer and the audience for which it will be performed. The performer also should overcome the objectivity of the author’s intention and the subjective interpreting the original work. The author of this study identifies the idea of musical thinking as the basis of the piano performing art that is confirmed by the basic pedagogical principles of the famous piano teachers of Ukraine of the 20th century.Novelty. An attempt is made at identifying musical thinking as the basis of the piano performing art.The practical significance of this study consists in the development of active musical thinking, which is of great importance in implementing the performer’s creative ideas both in the process of arrangement and stage interpretation of a musical composition. It contributes to developing original sound images and identifying the artistic content of the work, as well as emerging distinctive individual performance styles.
