Abstract

Information and communication technologies (ICT) are getting increasing attention in discussions about agricultural development. For example, the World Bank produced two reports in 2011 and 2012 highlighting the potential of ICTs in connecting farmers with important persons and agencies in the agricultural sector. In 2011 it was ICT in Agriculture, Connecting Smallholders to Knowledge, Networks and institutions. In 2012, the Bank and infoDev published Maximizing Mobile which explored the applications of mobile phone technology to a variety of sectors including agriculture. In this paper, we report on research in Ghana that looked at how key parts of the agricultural community communicate with each other in an emerging ICT environment.
