Morphological Description And Composition Of Fish Eggs In Sampadi Island, Lundu And Sematan Coastal Water Of Sarawak

Detail study on marine fish eggs in Sarawak coastal waters is still scarce. Therefore, this study was conducted in order to document the status of fish eggs composition and distribution with relatedness of environmental condition. Samplings were conducted on 15th July 2013 for Sampadi Island (two stations), 14th September 2013 for Lundu (six stations) and 15th September 2013 for Sematan coastal waters (six stations). A total of 12,046 number of fish eggs were found comprised of 18 families they were Clupeidae, Callionymidae, Soleidae, Cynoglossidae, Scorpaenidae, Labridae, Hemiramphidae, Carangidae, Engraulidae, Serranidae, Scombridae, Apogonidae, Sciaenidae, Pomacanthidae, Lutjanidae, Family 1, Family 2 and Family 3. At Sampadi Island, 1,488 of fish eggs were obtained with four families. A total of 7,741 of fish eggs were obtained at Lundu coastal waters encompassed of 17 families, while a total of 2,817 of fish eggs encompassed of seven families were obtained at Sematan coastal waters. The fish eggs obtained were mostly spherical, while one family was non-spherical. In terms of diversity, richness and evenness indices, Lundu has recorded the highest while Sematan coastal water recorded the lowest.
