Contact lens care : eye care

Several types of contact lenses are available with more being introduced in order to improve convenience of use and vision whilst decreasing the risk of infection, inflammation and trauma to the eyes. Soft lenses (hydrogel) are used most commonly and even sensitive eyes usually get used to them immediately. They are available as daily disposable lenses or lenses that can be used for up to 30 days before disposal. Some lenses need to be removed each night while others, called extended wear can be worn for longer periods. Hard lenses (gas-permeable) are durable, but not as comfortable as soft lenses. They are also brittle and patients should be careful not to break them during handling.
