Abstract

Objective To observe status of endemic fluorosis in Xinxiang City, and to provide scientific evidence for making strategies in prevention and control. Methods All villages with endemic fluorosis in Xinxiang City was divided into slight, moderate and severe degree according to water fluoride content before improving water.By sampling survey, the related indexes of endemic fluorosis and fluoride content in drinking water were investigated in these villages. Results The average content of water fluoride in slight, moderate and severe villages was 1.03,2.17 and 3.24 mg/L,with fluoride contents ranged from 0.25 to 7.70 mg/L.The geometric mean of urine fluoride was 2.10 mg/L in the children and 1.55 mg/L in the adult. The prevalence rate and index of dental fluorosis in children aged 8 to 12 years old were 64.01% and 1.4;the detectable rates of osteofluorosis of the clinic and X-ray were 5.80% and 9.90%.Conclusions The endemic fluorosis is still severe in Xinxiang and control and prevention of the disease should be strengthened later.
