The Renewed Interest for Africa And The Chinazation of Nigerian Economy: Implications for Nigeria's Socio- Political Future

The increasing influx of sub-standard Chinese-made product in Nigerian markers and the Chinazation of Nigerian economy have not only stirred the cupidity of scholars and consumers but confirmed the aged long view that peripheral economics are primary reservoir of raw materials or dumping ground for advanced industrial capitalist nations to which China has ascribed to membership. Substandard Chinese products in Nigerian markets have posed a threat to home industries and health hazard to helpless consumers of domestic and industrial goods. This paper attempts an examination of the dynamics of Sino-Nigeria relations against the background of their trade and diplomatic connections. The paper posits that the renewed interest for African resources present opportunity for the continent to lodge itself into the orbit of socio-economic development if this is properly managed; however, care must be taken to ensure that national interest is not negotiated on the altar of economic liberalization.
