Abstract
The serial sections of ten Pekin duck^s brains which were stained by Nissl method were used to observe the morphology and cytoarchitecture of the Nucleus isthmo-opticus (IO), Nucleus suprapontis(nsp), Nucleus intertrigeminalis (It), Nucleus cuniformis(Cu), Nucleus tegmenti ventralis(TV), Nucleus parabrachialis(nPB), which lie in mesencephalon reticulum. The results were as follows: (1) nsp and It which have not been previously reported in birds, were firstly observed in the Pekin ducks; (2) Cu was first observed in Pekin ducks; (3) IO, TV, nPB of Pekin duck^s mesencephalon were similar to those previously observed in the other birds.
