Abstract
As two categories of the leaky-wave antennas (LWAs), the uniform and periodic LWAs are widely studied individually in the last decades. Here, a hybrid uniform/periodic dual-mode dielectric grating LWA is proposed to combine the uniform and periodic leaky-wave modes together in a simple strategy. The uniform leaky-wave mode is achieved by the inherent leaky property of a dielectric waveguide, while the periodic leaky-wave mode is realized by the periodic load of the dielectric gratings. With the elaborate combination of these two leaky-wave modes, the beam-scanning ability can be enhanced with a supplement in near end-fire direction to eliminate the end-fire scanning blindness of conventional LWAs.
