Communicated by Joshua Cooper)Motivated by the recent work of Sjöberg and Ziegler, who obtained a complete characterization of the pairs ( f 0 , f 03 ) of flag numbers for 4-polytopes, in this paper we give some new results about the possible flag vector pairs ( f 1 , f 04 ) of 5-polytopes.
