Abstract
This paper presents a study and dimensioning of a padeye. Padeye is a lifting structure that is usually welded to the lifted structure. This paper will present the tensions that are applied in a padeye during a lifting operation and it will be done a structural dimensioning based on standards (mainly N-2683). In parallel, it will be used traditional literature to support the dimensioning (such as Shigley’s Mechanial Engineering Design). It was created a MathCAD spreadsheet for the padeye dimensioning, which is presented at the end of this paper. Furthermore, it was done a finite elements study to validate the dimensioning. Finally, it was made a comparison and discussion of the results found.
