Abstract
This chapter provides an overview the documented impact of employee engagement, starting with a look into organizational impact, followed by the individual impact, and deals with an emerging and potentially exciting subsection of research around health and health outcomes related to the experience of engagement. It analyses an overview with citations so that interested readers can go further if they choose, and examines a handful of seminal and current research to bring depth and contour to the deployment, utilization, and understanding of the impact and outcomes related to higher levels of employee engagement. The benefits of higher levels of employee engagement have been found to extend beyond the boundaries of work. In mid-2019, the World Health Organization recognized burnout as an official medical diagnosis, and as a result, interest in the connection between burnout and engagement is likely to grow. There is a growing narrative around the impact of employee engagement.
