Abstract
Herbivorous insects and mites were surveyed on the saltcedars, Tamarix spp. (Tamaricareae) in Xinjiang, western China, from 1992 to 2002. One hunderend and five species in 29 families of 7 orders of the Arthropoda were listed with their distributions and feeding traits. Among different feeding guilds, there were 37 species of leaf-chewing insects accounting for 28.0% of the total, 48 species of leaf-sucking insects (36.4%), 23 species of flower-fruit-feeding insects (17.4%), 18 species of branch-stem-attacking insects (13.6%), and 7 species of root-boring insects (5.3%).
