Abstract

Abstract
Yeats in his poetry explores his split self as a modern poet, creates a poetic world of dualism and expounds his philosophy about history, society and life. This paper tries to reveal Yeats' metaphysical idea about soul and self by way of analyzing some of his poems. He believes in the immortality of soul and its superiority over body, and also thinks man's earthly being lies in the unity of soul and body. However, the poet has never stopped his quest for absolute truth and transcendent beauty, and this never-ending conflict between soul and body in his poems finally makes up a dynamic yet hopeful world.
