A clinical analysis of intraocular lens extraction.

Objective To investigate the time, indications, methods and results of intraocular lens (IOL) extraction. Methods 7 cases (7 eyes) of IOL extraction were performed. The causes of posterior chamber IOL removal were IOL dislocation in 4 cases, subluxation and pseudophakic bul- lous keratopathy in one case,giant retinal break combined retinal detachment with anterior proliferative vitreoretinopathy in one case. The causes of anterior chamber IOL removal was uveitis- glaucoma- hyphema syndrome . Surgical precedures included simple IOL removal in 2 cases, combined with vitrectomy in 5 cases. Results 7 case of IOL exptraction were perfermed successfully for one time. The postoperative visual acuities improved in 6 cases, unchanged in one case, achieved 0. 3 or better in 3 cases. Conclusion The main indications and causes of IOL extraction were unfortunate IOL implantation which led to critical complications . IOL explantation in time will lead to better outcome. Combined vitrectomy is an effective method in treating IOLs dislocation into vireous cacity.
