Abstract

A waterborne nano-TiO2 slurry was prepared. The influences of titanate coupling agent, dispersing agent, pH, organobentonite and dispersing method on the stability of slurry were studied. The optimal formula was obtained as follows: titanium coupling agent B 0.12%, dispersant 3275 0.5%, pH 11, organobentonite 0.5%, dispersing by high-speed shearing 30 min + sand grinding 10 h + ultrasonic dispersing 30 min. The stability of the waterborne nano-TiO2 slurry was up to more than three months. UV accelerated aging tests showed that the varnish does not change its color after 1 000 h of accelerated aging experiment when nano-TiO2 slurry accounts for 3% of the varnish.
