Abstract
In the 1970s,the relevant European and American agencies began to try compiling Chinese ancient books index with the computer,thence the ancient Chinese ancient books index automation began.Since the 1990s,Japanese scholars have generally been compiling index with the computer,and they have made outstanding achievements in Chinese ancient index automation.South Korea collects many Chinese ancient books,but computerized index is not abundant.As the largest area of Chinese classics collection,mainland China,Hong Kong and Taiwan have all made great achievements in the field of ancient books index automation.Taiwan began it in 1984,mainland China in 1988 and Hong Kong in 1992.Not only are there many computerized Chinese ancient books indices,but also academics have been exploring and summarizing the theory of the Chinese ancient index automation.
