Abstract

Abstract To develop efficient redox photosensitizers of the (tris(bipyridine)Ru)2+ type, twelve Ru complexes such as (I), containing structurally analogous diimine ligands such as 2,2'‐bipyridine, 1,10‐phenanthroline or (II)‐(VI) and derivatives of them, are prepared by refluxing RuCl2(DMSO)4 with an excess of ligand in EtOH (synthetic routes to the ligands are also given).
