THREE NEW SPECIES OF THE GENUS PARIDEA FROM CHINA (COLEOPTERA:CHRYSOMELIDAE:GALERUCINAE)

Abstract

In this paper, three new species of the genus Paridea are reported from China. The typespecimens are kept in the Insect Collections of the Institute of Zoology, Academia Sinica. 1. Paridea (Paridea) brachycornuta sp. nov. (figs. 1-3) Generally yellowish brown, antennae pitchy brown to black and with the basal three seg-ments yellowish brown, tibiae and tarsi pitchy black. Elytra yellow; ventral surface with me-tasternum black. Head with frontal tubercle subtrianglar and distinctly raised. Antennae nearly 1/2as long as the length of body, the second segment 1/2 as long as the third. Pronotum withtransverse depressions, dorsal surface strongly convex anteriorly. Scutellum subtriangular.smooth and shining. Elytra each with a distinct lateral cost a starting from humerus and withsix rows of punctures between costa and suture. Pygidium and the apex of abdomen entire. Length: 4.5mm, 4.7mm. Holotype, Xingcun (27.6°N, 117.9°E), Chongan County, Fujian Province, 740-900m,July, 27, 1960, Collected by Pu Fu-ji; allotype, ditto, except July 30, 1960. Closely resembles Paridea (P.) subviridis Laboissiere, but differs in the color of the legsand the length of antennae, the male genitalia also different, as shown in fig. 1. 2. Paridea (Semacia) crenata sp. nov. (figs. 4-6) Head back with vertex brown. Antennae pitchy brown or brown. Pronotum and scutel-lum brown. Elytra yellowish, epipleura brown with the inner margin black. Legs with thedorsal part of the femora and tibiae and the entire tarsi black. Head with the frontal region closely punctred. Antennae 2/3 as long as the length ofbody. Elytra each with a short ridge laterally and on which there is a row of black hairs.Between the ridges is a fovea and with a tubercle in it. The male genitalia as shown in fig. 2.The apex of the abdomen entire. Pygidium emarginate in V shape. Length: 5.2mm, 5.6mm. Holotype, Mt. Foding (27.2°N, 108.0°E). It is very similar to Paridea (P.) circumdata Laboissiere but can be distinguished by thecolour of the ventral surface of body and the legs, and the different characters of the malegenitalia. 3. Paridea (Semacia) glyphea sp. nov (figs. 7-9) Generally yellow. antennae yellowish brown, with the basal two segments yellow. Prono-tum, scutellum and elytra yellow. Antennae with the first segment very slender at base and strongly swollen at apex. Pro-notum strongly convex anteriorly. Scutellum impunctate. Elytra with the lateral marginsexpanding at the middle portion; behind the humerus, there is a pair of foveae, in betweenthem with an excavation toward the suture. A tubercle rises from the bottom of the excava-tion with some hairs on the apex. The male genitalia as shown in figs. 7 and 8. Holotype, Mengla County (21.4°N, 101.5°E), Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province, 650m,June 12, 1980. It is similar to Paridea (P.) phymatodea Yang, but can be distinguished by the mormaltenth segment of the antennae and the excavation of the elytra.
