Abstract
Smart gridding of conventional power grids is key to ensuring the optimal use of electricity. Incorporation of contemporary smart gridding technologies (SGTs) within the power sector of Bangladesh can lead to expansion of the national grid infrastructure, improvement in energy‐use efficiencies, betterment of the reliability of power supply, and reduction in the monetary values of system losses. In addition, the accommodation of renewable energy within smart grids can raise the share of renewable electricity as a percentage of total electricity output of Bangladesh. This, in turn, is anticipated to provide off‐grid electrification opportunities and play a critically important role in mitigating the urban‐rural divide in access to electricity.
