On the morphology of an endemic copepod Acanthocyclops tomilovi Mazepova, 1978 (Copepoda: Cyclopoida: Cyclopidae) from Lake Baikal

Abstract

We studied the morphology of the Baikalian endemic copepod Acanthocyclops profundus tomilovi Mazepova, 1978 (Copepoda: Cyclopoida: Cyclopidae) using scanning electron microscopy.Appendages of the dorsal surface of the basipodite of antenna 2 and the coxopodite of the female swimming leg 4 are studied in detail for the first time.Morphometric indices of this subspecies are represented in comparison with those of A. profundus profundus.Based on our analysis, we can conclude that Acanthocyclops tomilovi Mazepova, 1978 must be regarded as a full species.
