The Empirical Approach on the Impact of Foreign Athletes on the Korean Athletes : Focusing on the Eight Basic Batter Records of Korean Baseball Organization in Korean Professional Baseball League from 1991 to 2004 Season

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to prove the athletic impacot f foreign athletes’ policy positively and empirically using the comparison of average batters’ records of 1991~1997 season and 1998~2004 season.BR Method: The data including batting average, number of games, number fo single base hits, double bases hits, triple bases hits, number of appearances, homeruns and RBIs were collected from the online database of Korean Baseball Organization, the official management organizaiton for Korean Professional Baseball League. The data analysis was conducted with frequency analysis and the paired t-test using the SPSS 21.0 Win version.BR Results: The summarized research results are as follows; First, therew as no difference statistically between the Korean baseball batters’ batting average of 1991~1997 season and the Korean baseball batters’ batting average of 1998~2004 season. Second, The Korean baseball batters’ number of games, number of single base hits, double bases hits, number of appearances, homeruns and RBIs of 1998~2004 season were significantly increased, compared to the Korean baseball batters’ number of games, number of single base hits, double bases hits, number of appearances, homeruns and RBIs of 1991~1997 season. Third, The Korean baseball batters’ number of triple bases hits of 1998~2004 season were significantly decreased, compared to the Korean baseball batters’ number of triple bases hits of 1991~1997 season.BR Conclusion: The foreign athletes’ policy which has been conducted since 1998 season is one of the most remarkable marketing strategies that raised the competitiveness of KPBL. This study tries to verify the empirical effects, which could prove its value. It is hoped that the study could contribute to the development of the improvement of foreign athlete policy and to the development of KPBL.
