Review impact of NCAA, NFL collaboration to address concussion concerns

The potential liability for head‐trauma‐related injuries has increased significantly during the last 20 years. From a medical perspective, the level of seriousness of a concussion, known as a traumatic brain injury, varies from player to player and contact to contact. From a legal perspective, the discovery and ensuing national discussion about chronic traumatic encephalopathy became a game‐changer. CTE is a progressive, chronic, degenerative brain disease that develops from repeated blows to the head. Its existence and/or potential emergence in current and former student‐athletes has increased the litigation stakes immeasurably and placed each school's approach to head safety and concussion injury and treatment under a microscope.
