Abstract

Dyslexia is a condition that makes it hard to read and learn in general. It happens when there is a problem with the way the brain processes graphic symbols. The problem in dyslexia is a linguistic one, not a visual one. Dyslexia does in no way stem from lack of intelligence, People with dyslexia can be brilliant. Although it is a neurological condition, dyslexia is not linked to intelligence. The effect of dyslexia vary from person to person. The only shared trait among people with dyslexia is that they read at levels lower than typical people of their age. This book is therefore a resource tool for teachers, parents and psychologists who may be dealing with dyslexic persons. The major topics covered in the book are: Stages of normal reading development; Causes of reading difficulties; Effects of reading disorders; Characteristics and signs of dyslexia; Evaluation of dyslexia; Strategies of teaching learners with dyslexia effectively; Assessment of various forms of language systems; Instruction and intervention in the classroom.
