Current Status and Prospects of Liberal Arts Curriculum Reorganization at Namseoul University

이 논문은 남서울대학교 교양교육과정 개편 현황을 점검하고 많은 대학들과 그 사례를 공유함으로써 미래지향적인 전망을 제시하고자 하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 남서울대학교는 2018년 시대적 변화를 선도할 수 있도록 교양교육과정을 전면적으로 개편하였다. 이번 남서울대학교의 교양교육과정 개편은 우리 대학 교육의 질을 제고함은 물론 대학 경쟁력을 높일 수 있는 계기가 될 것으로 기대한다. 학부교육의 핵심은 모든 학생들을 대상으로 하는 교양교육이다. 교양교육은 대학 교육의 핵심이며 대학의 전반적인 교육철학을 반영하는 중요성을 지닌다. 4차 산업혁명이라 불리는 지식 기반 정보사회는 대학 전체 차원에서 대학 교육목표 및 인재상과 학령기 고등교육의 일반성을 고려하여 핵심역량을 고도화하고 역량기반 및 성과 중심 교육과정을 통하여 인재 육성시스템을 고도화할 필요성이 제기되었다. 이에 우리 대학은 2018년에 2월 교양과정부에서 교양대학으로 직제를 개편함으로써 교양대학이라는 교양교육 전담기관을 통해 교양 교육과정의 주기적 개선, 그리고 교양교육의 질 관리를 위해 교육방법을 개선할 수 있는 토대를 마련하였다. 학교 내부와 외부 전문기관의 컨설팅을 통해 현황과 문제점을 객관적 시각에서 철저히 분석하여 시대 및 사회의 요구와 변화를 반영한 개편안을 마련하여 진행되었다. 우리 대학의 인재상과 교육목표에 맞는 핵심역량을 재설계하여 핵심역량 변경에 따른 교양 교과목 역량 비율을 적용한 교육과정을 운영하도록 전면적으로 개편하고 우리 대학 특성에 맞는 주요 교양교과목을 개발, 4차 산업혁명 등 최신 트렌드를 반영한 교과목도 신설하였다. 끝으로 교양교육 성과관리/질 관리 시스템 진단 및 환류 체계를 구축, 이를 교양교육과정과 수업에 반영하여 지속적으로 학습성과를 개선해 나가도록 하였다.This study aims to present a future-oriented perspective by examining the current status of the reorganization of the liberal arts curriculum at Namseoul University and share the results of this case study with other universities. In 2018, Namseoul University completely reorganized the liberal arts curriculum in order to keep up with the changing realities of the times. The reorganization of the liberal arts curriculum at Namseoul University is expected to improve the quality of university education as well as enhance the competitiveness of the university. The core of undergraduate education is liberal arts education for all students. And it is important to reflect the overall educational philosophy of the university. In today’s knowledge-based information society, called the Fourth Industrial Revolution, educational institutions need to upgrade core competencies and human capital development through a competency-based and performance-based curriculum, taking into consideration the general characteristics of human capital and higher education practices’. Namseoul University reorganized from the Liberal arts department to the liberal arts college in February 2018, which laid the foundation for improving educational methods for the incremental improvement of the liberal arts curriculum. This reorganization also improves the quality management of liberal arts education by creating a liberal arts education institute called a liberal arts college. By consulting internal and external professional organizations, the university analyzed the current situation and problems from an objective point of view and prepared the revised proposals to meet the needs of changing society. A new course reflecting the latest trends has been newly established. Finally, Namseoul University established the diagnostic and backlog system of the performance / quality management system for general education, and reflected it in the liberal education curriculum and lesson plans, so as to continuously improve the learning outcomes.
