Abstract

An undisturbed forestland at Kumpang Langgir Sri Aman was chosen as the study site. The study site has small patches of mature lowland dipterocarp primary forest left locally known as “Pulau”. The objectives of this study was to determine tree species composition, diversity as well as stand structure of the undisturbed community forest of Kumpang Langgir. Four transects were laid down and 25 plots of 20 x 20 m plots were established along the transects. All trees with diameter 5 cm and above were recorded and identified. A total of 106 genus, 199 species and 838 number of individual stems were recorded. The dominant tree species recorded was Syzygium antisepticum with 21.6 Importance Value Index. The highest number of genus was Euphorbiaceae with eight genera. The highest number of species was from Dipterocarpaceae with 20 species and the highest number of stem was from Myrtaceae with 152 stems/ha. The highest basal area was Syzygium antisepticum with 3.13 m2 /ha. Species diversity is considered high as shown by Shannon-Wiener diversity index (2.05), Simpson diversity index (0.98) and Margalef index (29.41). Among emergent trees recorded were Tristaniopsis whiteana, Shorea multiflora and S. dasyphylla. Tree species distribution are uneven and randomly distributed. Community structure parameters determined indicated that the undisturbed community forestland is healthy.
