Abstract
In order to set up a particular management system and maintain the same, it is necessary to perform the audit of this system. The same applies to the introduction of a quality management system. Organizations establish, document, implement and maintain a quality management system while constantly improving the efficiency of this system to meet the requirements of certain standards. The paper lists the most important standards related to ISO 9001 norm, type of audit and the ways in which audits are conducted, and how compliance with the given standards affects the improvement of the quality management system. The essential difference between the ISO 9001 quality standards 2008. and 2015. is also described. Finally, the quality management system is presented in the example of three Maritime Faculties, Rijeka, Split and Dubrovnik, and describe the areas of activity of the quality system, the objectives and the purpose of auditing and continuous improvement of quality through the adoption of the Ordinance and the Manual providing guidelines for establishing and ensuring progress in the quality of higher education at these faculties.
