Abstract

Poverty manifests itself not only in low income but also in poor health, stamina, malnutrition and lack of elementary education. Empowering women constitutes social development. Economic progress in any country, whether developed or undeveloped, could be achieved through social development. Women constitute half of the total population in our country. In a few regions, women outnumber men in rural population. Women empowerment cannot therefore be ignored while devising various policies for rural and socio-economic development. Women’s participation is significant in rural employment. Rural women put their entrepreneurial skill in all rural employment activities such as agricultural operations, poultry, sheep rearing, dairy, firewood cutting and selling, sale of agricultural produce, etc. Though they put their heart and soul in rural employment activities, their economic status is not improved, their livelihood is poor. Though they have entrepreneurial potential, due to poor financial strength, they need financial assistance.
