Abstract Das Acetoxy‐azetidinon (I) reagiert mit 2‐Brom‐3‐hydroxy‐3‐methyl‐buttersäurebenzylester in 20%iger Ausbeute zu einem 1:1,2‐Gemisch der β‐Lactame (II) und (III), von denen ersteres bei Behandlung mit Kaliumcarbonat in Dimethylformamid in 32%iger Ausbeute zu einem Gemisch der Oxadethiapenicilline (IVa) und (IVb) cyclisiert.
