Abstract

During the past few decades, significant progress has been made in plant breeding with advances in understanding of genetic variation, cytogenetics, quantitative genetics, and molecular biology. A molecular marker represents a handy tool for identification of polymorphism in field of plant biotechnology. Molecular markers can be classically divided into two types: Hybridization-based or non-PCR-based markers. Depending on type of studies, one can easily pick a particular marker from an assortment of various markers, viz. morphological, biochemical and DNA-based markers Allele mining, related hereditary qualities, and near genomics are promising new ways to deal with and get knowledge of the association and variety of genes that influence applicable phenotypic attributes. These DNA markers offer a favorable circumstances over conventional phenotypic markers, as they give information that can be investigated precisely. This chapter gives an inclusive use and types of various molecular markers used in various process in plant biotechnology.
