Abstract

Chinese medicine is the science of healing based on the ancient philosophy of Taoism, Yin-Yang, and Five Phases. It provides a unique method of understanding human health, dysfunction, and disease through holistic approaches. Chinese medicine modalities include Chinese herbology, acupuncture, tuina , dietary therapy, and energetic exercises such as tai chi and qi gong . Chinese herbology is based on Chinese medicine&s;s fundamental philosophies and theories and also utilizes its own unique principles. Tui Na is a special therapeutic method for external treatment based on the principles of Chinese medicine as well as acupoints and meridian theory. Chinese dietary therapy is a healthy way of eating based on an understanding of the different effects of food on the human body. Acupuncture is a healing art that employs Chinese medicine theory, especially Meridian Theory, to insert needles into acupoints, specific points on the body, accompanied with manipulation and/or stimulation with pressure, heat, light, or electricity.
