Research in Brief: Guidance on making railways more accessible to everyone (T1117): Researching and designing a framework to measure and improve accessibility across the rail sector in Great Britain (GB).

The Department for Transport’s (DfT) ‘Inclusive Transport Strategy: achieving equal access for disabled people’ sets out how transport is at the very heart of how we live our lives. Easy access to rail, and to transport in general, is central to building a stronger, fairer society supported by a stronger, fairer economy. The research provides insights into the needs of a wide range of disabled customers and identifies metrics to assess levels of accessibility for GB railways. The overall objective is to raise the accessibility of the rail network. We have developed a performance model and accompanying guidance that can be used by train operating companies (TOCs) and station operators.
