Abstract

One of the important gross motor development’s factors is nutrition. Nutritional problem could cause various of development disorders. Delayed gross motor development of toddler could degrade quality of their life. Preliminary study showed three from ten toddlers had suspected to delay gross motor development and some toddler had abnormal weight status at Posyandu Sartika in 2016. This study aimed to determine the relationship between nutritional status and gross motor development in toddler. Design of research was cross sectional analytic observational. Data were taken directly using anthropometric measurements (Weight-for-Length/Height) for nutritional status and KPSP aspects of gross motor development. The samples were 49 toddlers who selected by purposive sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were analyzed using chi square and contingency coefficient with α = 0.05. The study results showed that almost normal nutritional status responden (97.44%) had passed gross motor development, whereas all of abnormal nutrional status responden had not yet passed gross motor development. The analysis results were obtained p (0.000) < 0,05 and C = 0.685 (0.60 < CC < 0.799). There was correlation between nutritional status and gross motor development of toddler with strong relationship level. The toddlers who had abnormal weight status and/or not yet passed gross motor development should get more attention from parents and health professional.
