Abstract

The three cavity chambers which comprise the primary standard of air kerma for 60Co and 137Cs -rays are reaching the end of their working life. A new primary standard suitable for use at protection level air kerma rates is proposed to replace them and the main parameters which must be addressed in the design are identified. Recommendations are made for further work needed to inform the design process.
