Martha Graham’s art in the context of modern European dance

Purpose of Article. The purpose of the article is to analyse the main important steps and the significance of Martha Graham’s creative work, who was a famous American dancer. The author pays great attention to Martha Graham’s impact in the formation of the dance-«modern» in Europe. Methodology. The author uses the interdisciplinary methodological basis to achieve the purpose of the research. It includes biographical, cultural, historical methods and special art studies approaches. Due to it the author could analyses the main creative and live constants of the well-known dancer and her role in the formation of the modern European dance style in the correlations with Postmodern art trends. Scientific novelty. The scientific novelty of the article is that fact that the author is the first who interprets facts of the Martha Graham’s biography, incredible performance and pedagogical skill in the context of their importance for forming of European dance-«modern». Conclusions. The article shows the significant impact of Martha Graham in the formation of the modern European dance. Today it includes the best traditions of American dance of Modern and Postmodern periods of its formation. The cooperation between European and American dance traditions are still developing. Naturally, the traditions of the well-known world dance schools are being continued by their followers.
