Abstract— The paper analyzes the current state of the retail network in the Russian Federation, such as: its place in the economic structure, the presence and geographical location of retail outlets, their specific structure, the size of retail space including modern formats, the distribution of chain retail and distance selling, employment and wages. Shortcomings of state retail regulation and the potential for the development of the economic sector are discussed.
