AN ANALYSIS OF FIGURATIVE LANGUAGES FOUND IN SONG LYRICS OF DISNEY’S ANIMATION MOVIE SOUNDTRACKS

Literature is one of language written products that is influential for human’s life. It deals with imaginative and creative writing. Figurative language is often used in creative writing or literary work such as poem, novel, story, etc. However the use of figurative language is also found in many songs. Therefore, the researcher raises a study under the title “An Analysis of Figurative Languages Found in Song Lyrics of Disney’s Movie Soundtracks” \nThis study is aimed to analyze: 1) figurative languages found in song lyrics of Disney’s movie soundtracks; and 2) the meaning of each figurative language found in song lyrics of Disney’s movie soundtracks. This study was conducted by means of descriptive qualitative research employing objective approach. The research objects were song lyrics of I See the Light; Colors of the Wind; and Under the Sea. \nBased on data analysis, there have been found six kinds of figurative languages; those were hyperbole, metaphor, simile, symbol, personification, and synecdoche. The use of figurative language constructs intact meaning to song. Generally, I See the Light is a song talking about someone’s dream; Colors of the Wind is a song carrying message to nurture the earth; while Under the Sea is a song describing a joy of living under the ocean.
