Abstract

This publication is a statistical review of reported motor vehicle traffic crashes and other\ndata related to highway safety in the State of Maryland for the year 2007**. Crash data\nare aggregated by Maryland State Police Central Records Division from 144 law\nenforcement agencies statewide. Other data are provided through the Maryland Crash\nOutcome Data Evaluation System project sponsored by the National Highway Traffic\nSafety Administration (NHTSA). Alcohol fatalities are provided through NHTSA’s\nFatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS). FARS data are obtained solely from the\nState’s existing documents:\n• Police Accident Reports Death Certificates\n• State Vehicle Registration Files Coroner/Medical Examiner Reports\n• State Driver Licensing Files Hospital Medical Reports\n• State Highway Department Data Emergency Medical Service Reports\n• Vital Statistics Other State Records\n
