Abstract

Odontogenic keratocyst is a cystic lesion which affects mainly the jaw region, and it can be related or not to a dental element. Because there is not a consensus among which technique is most appropriate for its treatment, it becomes a great challenge for surgeons. It has a high rate of relapse and aggressive behavior. The causes of the recurrence indexes of this lesion depend on factors such as age, location, lesion size, type of treatment and histological variant. The aim of this study was to perform a literature review addressed to aspects regarding to odontogenic keratocysts, especially the treatment ways, advantages and limitations, as well as presenting a clinical case report of a patient submitted to total enucleation of the lesion.
