Abstract

Commenting on a selection of works (1968-1992) produced by Art & Language, Wood examines the group's ties with conceptual art, stresses its critical approach towards modernist painting, and raises issues of irony, aesthetics, identity, and the production/consumption process. The artists discuss such themes as the artist's and viewer's perceptions before a work of art and consider the relation between seeing and knowing. Biographical notes. 118 bibl. ref.
