Abstract
Abstract The image of the city is an ever‐evolving representation of a city's character, unique for each observer, and is socially constructed based on the observer's mental maps of both objectively and subjectively observed characteristics of the city. A term originally coined by Kevin Lynch, the “image of the city” is comprised of both the stationary elements of design and the mobile elements represented by the people and social activities within the city. With globalization, cities increasingly compete to construct images, through place branding, to attract businesses, tourism, and other economic investment.
