Abstract

Modern trends in transport and logistics have significantly influenced the development and globalization in the world. This thesis focuses on container ships and the standardized transport unit, a container, used in the different modes of transport and on one of the most important segments of multimodal transport with which most of the global trade is done, container transport of goods using ships. The thesis also touches on other modes of transport inside the multimodal chain like the transport of containers by rail, road, air and inland waterways to compare the advantages and disadvantages of the dif ferent parts of the chain.
