Articulation involves an expressive way of defining \nstructure, arranging spaces and revealing functionality to \nclarify the architectural idea, therefore, articulation \nbecomes a powerful tool for understanding buildings. \nBeing able to articulate signifies to he able to express \noneself clearly,' and it applies to our daily use. Whenever we \nspeak we are articulating by the use of words and sentences to \nconvey our message. We are coimecting words and sentences \nin a particular way so as to be understood. In architecture, the \nuse of articulation as a design tool may have the same effect \nas when we speak: understanding. But in order to achieve \nthis effect we must know how structure works, what are the \nimportance of the spaces of the building and what functions \nare taking effect. We can express structure not just by \nexposing a truss but by identifying the response against the \nforces which are in compression and tension that affect the \nstructural member. In relation to spaces, articulation must \nvisually distinguish spaces cormected to a large interior open \nspace such as an atrium. It should also convey an expression \nof interior spaces to the exterior of the building. For example, \nif a facade contains a series of windows with the same size, it \ncan be understood that the activities inside are equivalent. \nBut if we find a large window among those the same size, it \nwould be perceived as a different activity occurring in that \nparticular area. Now, for building functions, articulation must \npromote circulation patterns which connect the spaces \ntogether as well as identify the various services offered by the \nfacility. If structure, spaces and functions become effectively \narticulated within a whole, it will not only lay aside the need \nfor design ornamentation but it will allow more clear \nunderstanding of the building itself \nSCOPE OF PROJECT AND CONTEXT STA\\TEMENT \nThe vehicle to direct my intention is a Casino Hotel in \nthe main area of the Las Vegas Strip at Las Vegas, Nevada. \nThe lot is located at the comer of Las Vegas Blvd. and Sahara \nAve. The facility is to be deluxe, highrise with a convention/ \nresort hotel of 500 rooms with all amenities and entertainment \nfacilities. The complex will be designed to accommodate \nweekend vacationers as well as international tourists, but is \nnot limited to convention and business groups or commercial \ntravelers.
