Abstract
The bacterial blight of rice is caused by the phytopathogenic bacterium Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo). The disease limits the rice yield worldwide. As many as 26 resistant (R) genes have been identified with only a few cloned and characterized. This review discusses the various bacterial blight resistance genes which are identified and their uses in marker assisted selection in rice breeding.
