Sailing ship Mataura in dry dock at Port Chalmers

Sailing ship 'Mataura' in dry dock at Port Chalmers, view of the stern. There are a group of unidentified people, including two women, on board the ship, looking towards the camera. Taken by David Alexander De Maus between 1874-1889. The 'Mataura' was built in 1868, and was formerly known as the 'Dunfellan'. She was purchased by the New Zealand Shipping Company in 1874. She was fitted with Haslam's Patent Freezing Machinery and took the second cargo of frozen meat from New Zealand in 1882. She was later sold and renamed the 'Alida'.
