Abstract

The contractor's meeting held in Capri, Italy, June 7-8, 1983, concluded the Commission's 4-year biomass program with a chance for participants to pool their results and achievements. Gasification shows excellent prospects for future implementation, particularly the production of methanol synthesis gas from wood and the anaerobic digestion of agricultural wastes for biogas production. Other studies assessed the overall biomass resource base in Europe and investigated ways of cultivating marine and terrestrial energy crops.
