Abstract
The problem of understanding relativity, and especially that of the principle of the constancy of the speed of light, has led to the formulation of a new theory concerning the nature of light. According to the new theory, light has a wave-like nature and a variable speed, which decreases near the gravitational bodies. The time and distance travelled by a ray of light are calculated by the classical transformations that apply to the movement of all bodies and waves. New, simple and understandable relations arise, resulting in predictions that have the same level of precision as in relativity. The speed of light is calculated at certain points and areas of our solar system, such as the surfaces of the Sun and the planets, and at an infinite distance from any gravitational field.
